PURPOSE
The main purpose of this artist is to give you a unique and expressive drawing not seen before or after.

PORTRAIT SIZE
A rule of thumb on size would be 16x20 to 20x24 inches... which would keep the head size roughly at "life size". A head any larger would be disturbing, any smaller and it loses importance. Size can vary depending on the better composition and proportions.

MATERIALS
We use only top-quality brand materials; pencils, pastel sticks, pastel pencils, erasers, fixatives and paper (extra heavy, acid free), canvas, brushes, solvents, pigments, oil paints, etc., which can preserve your portrait for generations.

FRAME
Frame is not included.

WHAT IS PASTEL DRAWING?
Pastel is a medium, for the visual arts, which allows both line techniques as in drawing, and area techniques as in painting.

There is considerable similarity between the techniques in pastel art and that using charcoal, with the added aspects of color.

Using pastels to create art is a centuries old technique. During the eighteenth century, European artists such as Jean Baptiste Simeon Chardin, used pastels to paint portraits.

Renowned artist Edgar Degas used them more than any other in his time and was followed by his student Mary Cassatt.

Pastels are characterized by their soft shading and subtle hues. Pastels come in various forms including oil pastels, chalk pastels, and pastel pencils.

Using pastels to create art such as landscapes and portraits is a rewarding and often times challenging endeavor.

WHY TO USE OIL PAINTING?
Oil paint is what the Old Masters used and can produce beautiful results.

Oil paints were invented in the 15th century by a Flemish painter, Jan van Eyck. Before oil paint, most painters used tempera paint, which dried very quickly and didn't allow the artist to make changes or corrections. The invention of oil paints allowed artists to paint much more realistically and experiment with different brushstrokes and styles.

Oil paint is a mix of ground pigments and linseed, poppy or walnut oil. Since oil dries slowly, artists could take more time to work on details and capture the textures of skin and fabrics. Oil paints could also be built up in thin layers which better reflect light.

WHAT IS DRAWING WITH CONTÉ?
Conté is a traditional medium used for centuries to create spectacular works of art. It is essentially pure pigment mixed with a relatively hard binder that makes it more stable and much easier to work with than soft pastel.

Recently, it has become available in a wide range of colours, although its traditional application is with a simple range of earth tones. With exciting potential, conté is ideally suited for loose sketching and for intricate drawing.

POWERFUL EXPRESION WITH CHARCOAL
Charcoal drawing is a well-recognized medium. Very professional looking black-white images can be drawn just with a little chunk of charcoal and eraser.

It's like making abstract photos without using computer. Charcoal is also a good way of learning gray gradients and lighting techniques. But many people wondered how those images are made to look so cool with just a piece of charcoal.

A digital photo can be emailed to us or your traditional printed photo from film can be sent through the snail mail (US Postal Service).

If your photo is irreplaceable, we would reccomend scanning it and emailing a digital image.

If we think the photo is not the most convenient for the work, we'll contact you and make suggestions.

Characteristics of a good photo:

• Please send photos which are clear, focused and details such as eyes, eyebrows, pupils, color eyes, lips and hair can be seen well.
• In focus.
• The best shots are taken outside, out of direct sunlight and without a flash. They should be full face.
• Digital photos scanned or from camera should be at least 5”x7” at 300dpi.

Any photos taken by a professional photographer will need written consent before using. Please email us with any questions.

Since the moment we receive the payment and the photos it takes from 7 to 10 weekdays to finish the portrait in normal times. If we have an overload of work we will let you know to make arrangements (Fine Arts have not several speeds).
